If business school was just about the classes, it would be a piece of cake. However, business school is not just about the classes! There are the study group meetings, career club activities, company presentations, minority conferences, and by the way, trying to secure an internship with a great firm. As I thought about words of wisdom to pass along, the reoccurring themes involved time management and balance. Here are my top three things to keep in mind as you move throughout the first semester:
1. Outlook Calendar: LIVE IT, LEARN IT, LOVE IT. The Outlook Calendar should be your best friend during your time in business school. Make sure that your life is in these calendars and stay on your schedule. Set reminders and color code your appointments based on classes, club activities, company presentations, and personal time. By staying organized, you will be able to prioritize the most important aspects of your day.
2. Schedule Time for Yourself: While you don’t think that there is enough time in day, make sure that you schedule time for yourself to do what you like to do. Whether it is going on a run, watching Sunday night football, shopping at your favorite store, or going out to eat with friends, make it a point to have time for yourself to do what you enjoy.
3. Don’t Forget your Classmates: One of the best aspects of the AMBS Excellence Initiative is the fact that students are leading the way with supporting each other both academically and professionally. Through review sessions before exams, interview preparation, or social activities to get to each other better, there are plenty opportunities to develop meaningful relationships with your classmates. Take advantage of these opportunities!
