MBA Concentration: Finance
Why did you choose Kenan-Flagler?
I decided to pursue the MBA at UNC, Kenan-Flagler after visiting with students and faculty. Kenan-Flagler has a solid finance department with enthusiastic and thorough professors, and a true focus on leadership. I knew Kenan-Flagler could help me become a leader within industry
finance and one day a CFO.
How will you define success within the MBA program?
I define success in the MBA program as stretching myself beyond my known capacity, encouraging others to do the same, and leaving an impact on the MBA program.
What are you looking to gain the most during your first year experience?
I came to Kenan-Flagler to gain a solid foundation in finance, increased awareness of sustainability, nonprofit leadership experience, and international business experience in Asia and South America. I am well on my way to achieving this.
What does Your Kenan-Flagler and Consortium network mean to you?
The Consortium network at Kenan-Flagler has truly become a family for me. I appreciate the relationships built between the first and second year students. There is definitely a “bond” between us that’s very encouraging.
Who is someone in business that you admire the most?
Indra Nooyi, the CEO of PepsiCo, is a woman that understands that leading means helping others reach their full capacity. In addition, her transition from consulting to corporate finance and finally to become CEO is a career path that I admire.
What three words define who you are, and why?
Forward-thinking: This is how my first year study group has described me. I do enjoy strategically thinking about the future and evaluating the best way forward.
Inclusive: During the first year at Kenan-Flagler we’ve had the opportunity to become part of a lot of different groups, and one of my roles has been making sure that every opinion is heard.
Adventurous: I’m usually the first of my friends to try a new activity, location, or even cuisine.
What is an interesting personal fact that you would like to share?
Since attending Kenan-Flagler, I’ve also accomplished one of my personal goals, running my first 5K. As the first year liaison for the Carolina Women in Business, I helped organize the Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser and connect with the Kenan-Flagler running club to participate in the Heels 4 Hope 5K on November 5, 2011. It was an amazing, personal accomplishment for me.
