Brittany Curry
MBA Concentration: Marketing and Sustainable Enterprise Enrichment
Background: : I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. I graduated
with a B.A. in Public Relations and English from Hampton University in Hampton,
Virginia. I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and enjoy non-profit education initiatives and other activities that allow me to interact with highly motivated youth.
Before making the transition back to business school, I worked as an Account Manager
for Group CSE, a full-service sports and entertainment marketing agency, based in Atlanta, Georgia. My responsibilities included strategic planning, activation and execution of corporate marketing, sponsorship, and endorsement plans. I developed comprehensive skills in multicultural market assessment, market research, contract negotiations, event planning and logistics, emerging media, promotions, public relations and return on investment analyses.
I have been actively involved at Kenan-Flagler over the past two years beyond academic coursework particularly as a Consortium Fellow, VP of Special Events for AMBS, Director of Global Scholars Academy Initiatives for the Community Service Club, Junior Achievement, and an MBA Ambassador and Leadership Coach.
Career Goals: I am excited about using my MBA to creatively connect brand management, corporate social responsibility, and non-profit initiatives.
What did you do for your Internship?
I completed my internship as a MBA Summer Associate with Johnson & Johnson in Skillman, New Jersey on the Baby Team. I worked on strategic marketing projects around baby gift sets and the re-launch of the Johnson’s Kids line.
What will you be doing next semester?
I will return full-time to Johnson & Johnson this fall as an Associate Brand Manager. In the mean time, I am looking forward to relocating to New Jersey and getting acclimated to real life!
What does your Kenan-Flagler and Consortium network mean to you?
While I knew the decision to come back to business school would have a huge impact on my career regardless of where I chose, it was important that I found a school that would be conducive for my individual learning style, allow me to explore the world of business beyond my intended concentration and beyond borders. I wanted to be at a school where there was a distinct and deliberate commitment to diversity: diversity of thought more than of race, gender or background, though one is often a function of the other. This is what continues to separate Kenan-Flagler. Not are we committed to being a part of growing need for diversity in business, but also we are committed to encouraging our students to understand and appreciate the importance of being leaders in the diversity initiative. I continue to be impressed by the way the faculty and administration design the social and academic curriculum to encourage students to continuously expand their minds. I have found that the more of the world we encounter by chance, the more we will seek to encounter on purpose. This is the beauty of unlimited exposure that Kenan-Flagler offers. In the same vein, the Consortium has been an invaluable resource – not only was I awarded a Consortium Fellowship but I secured my internship and consequently full-time offer as a result of my membership. The support that the Consortium creates through its connection of schools and companies has allowed me to build a network of individuals that consists of experienced professionals and current MBA students across all different fields, functions, and places. The group of people who drive the Consortium continue, with the help of the companies, schools, and students, to grow the diversity in business initiative and I am proud to be a part of that movement.
In three words, define who you are and why?
Inspired. Committed. Hopeful.
The purpose of my life is to have an impact on something greater than myself. For me, to have lived a life where I have taken advantage of limitless opportunities to expose myself and expand my thoughts – and pass that along – is my definition of success. I want to realize first hand the interconnectedness of this world, inspire and be inspired by experiences far beyond my windows vista. My hope is to uncover and share as many universal truths and help honor and enable as many universal rights as possible. I want to be proud of the work I have done to advance my own initiatives but even more so of the work I have done to enable children to create initiatives that will long outweigh the impact of mine.
What is an interesting personal fact that you would like to share?
I gather what my friends call lots of useless information from many different sources – I am a random fact collector.
