Current Role: Principal at New Paradigm Advisory Group; Executive Director at IT’S TIME, Inc
Where did you grow up? Washington, DC; born and raised; Ward 5, 20018
What year did you graduate from KFBS? That awesome class of 2011
Position prior to Kenan-Flagler: Equity Analyst at The Motley Fool
What was your most memorable moment at Kenan-Flagler: Visiting the favelas in Brazil and learning how the country’s approach to addressing economic disparity differs from the U.S.
Who was your favorite professor and why? Which course did he/she teach? Favorite professor is/was Dr. Johnson because of his pioneering work in urban education/development; my favorite class was Negotiations with Kevin Hill because of the thousands of dollars it has put in my pocket since graduation. Know your BATNA!
What is the one thing that you miss about being a student at UNC Kenan-Flagler? Besides no bills, the student discounts, tickets to basketball games and endless supply of free food/drinks…spending time with my classmates and hearing the latest Alta gossip.
What has been your biggest professional accomplishment since obtaining your MBA: Believing in myself enough to take the risk of establishing a firm that is completely aligned with my personal and professional values. I find fulfillment through my daily work in a way most people do not. I’m blessed.
What advice would you give to current Kenan-Flagler students: Do not be afraid to follow your passion even if it means taking an initial paycut. The money will come. Don’t worry about grades in school. Spend less time studying and more time building relationships with classmates. Take some risks in b-school and early in your career (especially if you’re single and don’t have mouths to feed). You have the intellect, connections and work ethic to make great things happen. The “Light Blue Mafia” is not a myth. The alum network is strong; take advantage early and often.
