At first glance from my mind’s eye, all of the easy clichés seem to apply my time at Kenan-Flagler: “It went by so fast”…”seems like only yesterday”…”I can’t believe it’s been two years”. After thinking a little deeper, however, I can believe it’s been two years because it takes time to form relationships I’ve been able to form, have the great experiences I’ve had, and the sharpen the skills the I’ve sharpened. I speak with a lot of prospective students these days who ask me how business school has been compared to what I thought it would be. One of the highest compliments to KFBS is that I can tell those prospective students that attending KFBS has been exactly what I thought it would be. I had high expectations for the payoff I’d receive for trading in two years of a pretty good job and the possibility of moving permanently away from Atlanta, a city where I own a home and had come to enjoy a nice overall lifestyle. Kenan-Flagler has delivered that payoff.
Along with landing the great job and sharpening my business skills, I came to Chapel Hill to refocus my experiences on global business. I led a team of MBA students from four different programs on a consulting project in Brazil for a fortune 500 textile company (http://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/News/DetailsNewsPage.cfm?id=4883) and have visited three countries, with three more on the way. I’ve also been able to hold leadership positions with school clubs build relationships with students from many other top programs through The Consortium.
All of the top schools would have helped me sharpen my business skills. Landing the great job I felt was 90% up to me as long as those companies respected the institution I chose to attend. Only Kenan-Flagler offered the promise of the overall B-school experience that I wanted, and it has delivered.
